Storytimes are based on the American Library Association's Every Child Ready to Read appproach to early literacy.

Baby: Birth - 2 years. Puppets may be used occasionally for this early literacy program.

Toddler: Talkers 2-3 years

Preschool: Pre-Readers 3-5 years. Puppets may be used occasionally for this early literacy program.

Family Storytime: Talkers 2-3 years. Early talkers Birth - 2 yrs. Pre-Readers 3-5 years. All age children are welcome to sit and listen! Stories, songs, fingerplays, flannel board stories, and cut-and-tells. There is also a special family storytime the fourth Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m.

Visions and Dreams

Local artist Mary Mellot will display from Saturday, December 20, through Monday, January 26. http://www.stlukes.net/mellot

Dreams and visions continue to challenge my imagination to see things in a different light, a different perspective. Art making provides the vehicle to explore and participate in the creative process. Following a line and the energy it wants to express becomes my journey and adventure. Animals, plants, moons, suns and colors compete for my attention as patterns overlay with a delicate and sometimes powerful voice. The final piece of art invites one to create a story and dialog with ever flowing creative imagination of the child within all of us.

Meeting Room Guidelines

Douglas County Libraries provide meeting rooms to enrich the educational mission of the library, to enable members of the local community to gather to discuss issues important to the community and to encourage the free exchange of information on a wide variety of topics. The meeting rooms are available to all nonprofit, community, and for-profit groups, regardless of their beliefs or affiliations.

To improve gas mileage, our environment, and our parking situation, Douglas County Libraries encourages those who meet at its facilities to carpool.

Philip S. Miller Community Meeting Rooms

The Philip S. Miller Library meeting rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Meeting rooms are free for non-profit and community groups, which are also given preference in reservations. For-profit groups may reserve rooms when space is available. Donations are encouraged. Suggested donation is $25 per use.

Request a Meeting Room

The meeting rooms are used frequently; we strongly advise that you submit requests as early as possible. Community meeting rooms have access to a kitchenette for catering needs or light refreshments. All rooms have Internet access. Chairs, tables, Wi-Fi and audiovisual equipment are also available for use during reserved times. These meeting rooms can be accessed through a separate exterior entrance, which can be made available when the library is closed.

Great Books Discussions

Douglas County Libraries currently sponsors Great Books Discussion Groups at three libraries:

Over fifty years ago, the Great Books Movement started at the University of Chicago with the idea that ordinary people could meet and discuss the enduring ideas and issues found in classic writings. The Great Books Foundation promotes reading and conversation about great literature through discussion groups.

Highlands Ranch Library

Group 1: Meets the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month, 2:00 pm.
Group 2: Meets the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month, 7:00 pm.

Parker Library 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month, from 10:30am to noon.

Philip S. Miller Library 1st Monday of each month, 7:00 pm.
