Hundreds of years before Douglas County had a name and a county seat, it was home to untold peoples and their land and communities. The public is invited to join archaeologist Erik Gantt and the Douglas County History Research Center for a Douglas County Libraries presentation of “What Lies Underground: Our Hidden Past.”

Recommended for people over the age of 12, the program will explore the rich archaeological history of Douglas County via a virtual tour of County locations including the recently excavated Reuter-Hess site near Parker. Gantt, project supervisor for Centennial Archaeology, will link finds there with other evidence of early people throughout the county.

Every artist knows the anxiety of facing a blank canvas. Fear no more! Conversations in Art is proud to present local artist Kris Iltis, who will lead a discussion illustrating her creative process and influences. In "Facing the Blank Canvas," Kris will discuss the painting techniques of the early Dutch painters, the tools of the Impressionists, and present-day approaches. She will demonstrate how an understanding of painting techniques and influences helps both artist and observer.

Through March 25, visit the Roxborough Library to enjoy the fine art talent of Maryann Leake Baisley, local illustrator and watercolorist. Her current work explores four areas of interest: flowers, koi, rock formations and nests.

Explore out-of-this-world science fiction and fantasy books with the Science Fiction and Fantasy Book Club. Meets the second Wednesday of each month at 7pm.

Join Jeremy Cunningham, and his wife, Suzanne Gutierrez, long time Sci-Fi/Fantasy aficionados, for spirited book discussions on classic titles in the genre each month. Enthusiasts of all ages, from teen to adult, are invited. Registration recommended. To register, call 303-791-7323.

Castle Rock teens ages 12-18 are invited to submit an original piece of writing inspired by the town of Castle Rock. The My Castle Rock Teen Writing Contest sponsored by Philip S. Miller Library gives teens an opportunity to express themselves and tell the community what Castle Rock means to them.

Every Thursday, 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the Aloha Teen Tower, teens can play Rock BandTM, Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros, and more! Bring your friends, or play with whoever is in the Tower. No registration is required.

Are you in a book club or thinking of starting your own?

Douglas County Libraries offers a service called Book Club Express. Titles are available county-wide and are centrally housed at Highlands Ranch Library.

We'll provide you with multiple copies of a book, author biographies, discussion questions, and more!

A Book Club Express kit can be checked out for six weeks with over 150 titles from which to choose for adults, children, and teens. You can also reserve titles as future book club selections.

We are also happy to provide book talks at your book club meeting. Just leave your phone number and/or email information when you speak to us about Book Club Express.
